The clinicians who will see you in English

Being told you need a root canal is hard enough in your own language. Seven of our clinicians work in English, across the specialities that actually matter — orthodontics, implant surgery, endodontics and gum treatment.

Why this page exists

Most Lisbon clinics say they speak English. What that often means is that someone at reception does, and the clinician does not — which is fine for booking an appointment and useless for consenting to surgery.

So this page lists the clinicians who actually work in English, taken from our own records rather than from a marketing claim. It covers general dentistry, orthodontics and clear aligners, implant surgery, endodontics, and hygiene and gum treatment.

The rest of the practice

The full team is larger — twenty clinicians across the two clinics. The others work in Portuguese, and some in French or Spanish. You can see everyone, with their registration numbers and training, on the Portuguese team page.

If you need a speciality that nobody above covers, say so when you contact us. We would rather arrange interpretation than have you sit through a consultation half-understanding it.

A note on continuity

The clinic has been run by the same family since 1989. Most of what you will find in Lisbon now belongs to a group, and in a group the clinician who starts your treatment is often not the one who finishes it.

For a filling, that does not matter. For implants, orthodontics or a full reconstruction — work that runs over months or years — it is the single biggest predictor of whether the plan holds together.

António Bexiga

Founder & Clinical Director

António Bexiga founded the clinic with a simple conviction: dentistry should always begin with respect for the person, not with the sale of a treatment.

For him, caring for someone's health means accepting a responsibility that goes far beyond providing clinical treatment. It means being honest about what is needed, transparent about the available options, and respectful of each patient's right to make an informed decision.

Today, although he sees fewer patients personally, António Bexiga remains the clinic's Clinical Director and continues to guide its standards and principles. The values with which he founded the clinic remain at the heart of how we work today.

"People come before sales. Clinical judgement comes before commercial interests."

We do not believe in treating healthcare as a sales business.

We do not believe that patients should be viewed as sales opportunities, nor that treatment decisions should be driven by commercial targets, financing arrangements or pressure to accept procedures.

Our approach is different. We believe that treatment should be recommended because it is clinically appropriate — not because it is commercially attractive. Patients should receive clear information, understand their options and feel free to decide without pressure.

These principles are particularly important in dentistry, where patients place an enormous amount of trust in the professionals caring for them.

For international patients, dental tourists, digital nomads and residents from abroad, choosing a healthcare provider in another country requires an additional level of trust. We believe that trust has to be earned through transparency, clinical responsibility and consistent ethical standards.

This is the legacy António Bexiga continues to protect as Clinical Director and founder: a clinic where people come before sales, where clinical judgement comes before commercial interests, and where ethical standards are not negotiable.

Booking in English

Message us on WhatsApp or by email. Tell us what is going on, whether you prefer the Lisbon or Portela clinic, and that you would like to be seen in English. If you have a recent X-ray from another dentist, send it — it often saves an appointment.

Frequently asked questions

How do I make sure I get an English-speaking clinician?
+

Say so when you book. Mention it on WhatsApp or in your email and we will schedule you with one of the clinicians listed on this page rather than leaving it to chance.

Are all of them at both clinics?
+

No. Clinicians divide their week between the Lisbon and Portela locations, and some work only at one. Tell us which location suits you and we will find the right combination of clinician and site.

What if I need a speciality nobody on this list covers?
+

Between them, this group covers general dentistry, orthodontics and aligners, implant surgery, endodontics, prosthetics, hygiene and periodontics. For anything outside that, we will arrange interpretation rather than leave you guessing.

Are these dentists registered in Portugal?
+

Yes. Every clinician holds a registration number with the Ordem dos Médicos Dentistas, the Portuguese dental council. The numbers are published on each clinician's page on the Portuguese version of this site.

Will I see the same person throughout my treatment?
+

That is the intention, and it is the main practical reason to choose a family-run clinic over a chain. For a plan running over months, continuity of the clinician doing the work is not a nicety.
