A more affordable alternative to All-on-4
If you wear — or are about to need — a full denture, a conventional plate relies on suction and gum contact alone, and tends to loosen further as the jawbone naturally shrinks without teeth or implants to stimulate it. An implant overdenture solves this by anchoring the denture to 2-4 implants through small attachments, most commonly the Locator system, the most widely used worldwide for its simplicity and low maintenance.
Because it uses fewer implants and a simpler prosthesis than a fixed bridge, an overdenture is typically a more affordable route to a stable, comfortable bite than All-on-4 — while still being removed by the patient for sleep and cleaning, unlike a fixed prosthesis.
How the Locator attachment works
Each implant receives a small Locator abutment. Inside the denture base, a retentive nylon insert clips onto the abutment — that's what holds the denture firmly in place, with a "click" you can feel. The retention strength can be adjusted by swapping the insert for a firmer or softer one, depending on comfort and manual dexterity.
The retentive inserts are a wear component, like brake pads — they lose grip with repeated daily use and need replacing periodically, typically once or twice a year, in a short appointment.

Who it suits
It's the most requested solution for patients who've worn a full removable denture for years and feel its limits — instability when speaking or chewing, discomfort, self-consciousness — but for whom a fixed rehabilitation like All-on-4 isn't the right fit, whether due to bone loss that would require grafting first, or a preference for a removable, easy-to-clean solution at a more contained budget.
How the trips work
- Visit 1: assessment, X-rays/3D CT scan, implant placement surgery (2-4 implants per arch)
- Healing (2-4 months): you can keep wearing your existing denture, adjusted so it doesn't press on the surgical site — remote follow-up by video call
- Visit 2: Locator abutments fitted and the denture adapted (or a new one made) with the matching attachments
